Vincent van Gogh in Brabant

logovgb_mobile.1.1.1.pngThe Van Gogh communities in Noord-Brabant.
Seven towns in Noord Brabant have a connection with the artist Vincent van Gogh in one way or another. These are the communities of Zundert, Zevenbergen, Tilburg, Helvoirt, Etten-Leur, 's-Hertogenbosch and Nuenen. Five of these towns are keen to promote the connection with Vincent. These Van Gogh communities form mutually the 'Van Gogh in Brabant' Association.

Vincent Van Gogh House Zundert
30 March 1853: born in Zundert where he spent his childhood years. Van Gogh Church Etten-Leur
April 1881-December 1881: lived and worked with his parents at the parsonage in Etten. Various events convinced him that he was being guided in the choices he made by what others expected from him. He decided for certain that he wanted to become an artist.
You can be introduced to this relatively unknown period of his life in the Van Gogh Church. Nine colourful windows depict themes from his period in Etten.

Van Gogh Village Nuenen - the Vincentre
December 1883 - November 1885: lived and worked in Nuenen.
Nuenen has been familiar with the Van Gogh Documentation Centre since April 1976, where an impression was given of his Nuenen period through the medium of photos, reproductions and archives. It was in Nuenen that Vincent developed as a painter of the Brabant peasant life and produced his most famous Dutch work 'The Potato Eaters'. From July 2010 visitors to the Vincentre will have access to information in a state-of-the-art experience dedicated to Vincent's life and work, with the accent on his stay in Nuenen. Vincent produced one quarter (551) of his total output here.

You will experience in the Vincentre how Vincent van Gogh lived and painted in Nuenen. You will experience and live things as he lived them. You can imagine you are back in Vincent's time. All this of course using the newest methods of presentation. This is a unique experience for young and old. The Vincentre is also the starting point for one of the many walks through the 'outdoor museum' of Vincent.

Vincent's art room has been reconstructed with due attention to the teaching methods of his renowned teacher C.C. Huijsmans. The public can become involved in the drawing education programme for young people in Tilburg, and by so doing create more attention to Van Gogh and Tilburg.
